HB 2077 removes sales tax on food, medicine, and essential supplies purchased by licensed nonprofit shelters and rescues, putting nearly $800,000 annually back into lifesaving shelter and rescue community services. 

Today, many nonprofit shelters operate under city and county contracts but still pay sales tax using taxpayer funds, grants, and donations, while municipal shelters are already exempt. The result: charities that solve a public problem are taxed for doing so.
